Travelling to Makhasa Private Game Lodge

 Airport transfers to be arranged on request with Wild Routes Africa

Please take note of the directions and do not follow Google maps once you have exited Hluhluwe as it will take you down the wrong route.

From Durban (Approximately 340km)

  • Take the N2 heading north until you reach the R22 Hluhluwe exit.
  • At the top of the ramp, turn right towards Hluhluwe.
  • Entering Hluhluwe, you will cross 3 consecutive traffic circles. At the 4th circle, turn left, following the R22 Sodwana Bay signage.
  • As you pass the “Build-It Hardware Store”, travel approximately 1km before turning right onto the R22 Sodwana Bay road.
  • Continue along this tar road for approximately 22km.
  • 600m after crossing the Sibhicayi river, turn left on to the D448 road.
  • Continue along this dirt road for 1.6km until you reach the game fence.
  • Follow the road right at the fence and travel along the outside of the game fence for 6km until you reach the entrance gate to the Munywana Private Game Reserve.
  • Check in through gate security and then turn right after 100m (follow Makhasa Game Lodge sign).
  • Drive another 100m and turn right again, following the security gate fence line. (Makhasa Lodge signposts will guide you).
  • Continue a short distance before taking a sharp left turn at the game fence,
    traveling for about 2km along the inside of the game fence before turning left
    at the the Makhasa Lodge signpost.
  • The lodge is approximately 250m along the road – signs will guide you. 

 

From Johannesburg: (Approximately 620km)

  • Take the N3, towards Heidelberg/Durban/N17/Springs.
  • Take exit 103 for N17 East to Springs.
  • Continue on the N17 for 196kms towards Ermelo.
  • In Ermelo turn left onto Voortrekker Street/ N2.
  • Proceed on the N2 towards Piet Retief/eMkhondo.
  • Continue on the N2 through Pongola and Mkuze.
  • 40 km beyond Mkuze, you will see a “Phinda” sign-posted off-ramp. Do not take this off-ramp as Makhasa Game Lodge is on the other side of the reserve.
  • Instead, remain on the N2 for an additional 10km until you reach the R22 Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park/False Bay off-ramp.
  • Turn left at the top of the ramp.
  • Entering Hluhluwe, you will cross 3 consecutive traffic circles.
  • At the 4th circle, turn left following the R22 Sodwana Bay signage. As you pass the “Build-It Hardware Store” you will leave the outskirts of town.
  • After approximately 1km, turn right onto the R22 Sodwana Bay/False Bay road.
  • Drive for approximately 22km until you cross the Sibhicayi River.
  • 600m after crossing the Sibhicayi river, turn left on to the D448 road.
  • Continue along this dirt road for 1.6km until you reach the game fence.
  • Follow the road right at the fence and travel along the outside of the game fence for 6km until you reach the entrance gate to the Munywana Private Game Reserve.
  • After checking in through security, turn right after 100m and (follow Makhasa sign).
  • Drive another 100m and turn right again, following the security gate fence line (Makhasa Lodge signposts will guide you).
  • Continue a short distance before taking a sharp left turn at the game fence, traveling for about 2km along the inside of the game fence before turning left at the Makhasa Lodge signpost.

Please be aware, as you approach the Lodge that you are in a wilderness area where predators and high-profile game roam freely.

Do not leave your car for any reason.

Please adhere to the speed limits within the reserve at all times.

You enter Munywana Game Reserve entirely at your own risk.

Please be advised that we cannot be held responsible for theft, loss or damage, whilst vehicles are parked on our premises.

As you will be entering a reserve with wild animals, and driving over gravel roads, we recommend you take appropriate insurance cover and consider excess-waiver cover.
